World Shim Sham Day, World Lindy Hop Day and Frankie Manning’s Birthday

As most of you know. Frankie (amongst some other cool cats) was our mentor, first dance instructor and continued for many years teaching and sharing his knowledge to us here in Australia.  Here are a couple of my Favorite photos of our time with him starting in 1996.  I have also attached a You tube clip HERE of our good friend and another cool mentor we had/have Sing Yuen Lim who was Frankie Protege and very good friend.  Here she is sharing a Zoom session with her students and another one of our fabulous mentors and teachers, Mattias Lundmark from The Harlem Hot Shots and Herrang Fame along with his beautiful wife Hannah.  These cats have such a long hand rich history with Frankie and Lindy Hop and are some of the historians of this dance and Frances Memory along with so many others who keep the spirit alive.A special day for us and to have it on Tuesday night (our regular dance class night) is extra special.NB:  Re Pictures.. It has to be noted that My Mum was at EVERY single Frankie Event in fact she was at EVERY Dance event from the beginning and is rarely in pics because she was always the one taking them..  Thanks Mum..

It’s #FrankieMonth!

This year we’re doing a new kind of global Shim Sham for Frankie Manning’s birthday. This time, it’s going to be a relay!

No matter where you are in the world on 26 May 2020, at 8pm *your* time it’s Shim Sham time!

We invite you to join in.

HOW IT WORKS

  • Create a virtual Shim Sham party with your community or dance on your own at 8pm your time.
  • Post a video, tag it with #ShimShamRelayand #HappyBirthdayFrankieManningand share with the world!
  • Let’s flood social media!

The first Shim Sham will start 8pm UTC+12 in New Zealand and one hour later move on to the the next time zone, and so on and so on!

Organizers and schools, you can create your own events and invite your own students to join in, at 8pm YOUR time, post your videos for the whole lindy world to see!
