Swinging into June with Chrissy & Ray from Swing On In

Hey Swingkids,

There are some pretty awesome events happening over the next few weeks/months and we don’t want you to miss out. Ray and I and the SOI dance team are always looking at ways to give you maximum dance fun outside of the all the fun you have at your weekly classes. Here’s some events to mark in your diary..

  1. Friday 2nd June (THIS FRIDAY) – Your monthly social- Nerang Community Hall – 8pm to 11pm – $10 at the Door – 34 Price Street Nerang – Parking at the Rear.  BYO refreshments, Best Floor int Qld, come and Enjoy.

    Ready to burn some holes into those soles with your swivels, swingouts and style? Missing dancing?? Join us for our monthly social dance on the best little dance floor in qld.. great friends, community spirit, AWESOME music and great dancing. Swing-A-Billy Ray and guest DJ’s will keep you toe tappin and dancin all night. 8PM til late.. BYO your refreshments and $10 at the door for dancers.. FREE for new non dancing guests that just want to see what its all about! (Time to bring your friends!!)

  2. Saturday 2nd of June (THIS SATURDAY) – Aerials Workshop with Chrissy & Ray – Bangalow

    This Workshop will cover the following:
    Aerials Etiquette
    Safety
    Dips, Leans, Drops, Lifts
    $60 per couple (pr-paid)
    No Rotations so you must bring your own partner

  3. Sunday 4th of June (THIS SUNDAY) – Swing In The Flowers:

    “Swing Dancers, Family and Friends are invited to join us for Swing In The Flowers Picnic Swing Dance”

    This day includes a visit to Ian’s Flower and Blueberry Farms on the Alstonville Plateau, Afternoon Tea and Dancing at a little Community hall at Meerschaum Vale. It is a nice little hall, 110 years old and has seen many community dances in that time. It has a large kitchen, with ovens, hotplates, fridges and freezers and an outside veranda.

    It is on Wardell Road the same as the flower Farm and is 5.5 km away or about 6 minutes drive.

    BBQ if you want to stick around and dance some more.. details below:

    PRIME FLOWERS has been in operation for 21 Years and is now one of the largest flower growers and employers based in the rich farmland of the Alstonville Plateau.

    1.30pm: Meet at Prime Flowers, 368 Wardell Road, Alstonville. Guided Tour of the flower processing facilities and flower farm. (Directions Below)

    2.30pm: Trip to the Blueberry Farm where you get to pick your own blueberries for your afternoon tea. Please bring a small plate to share as well.

    3.00pm: Afternoon Tea at the Community hall at Meerschaum Valel featuring the Blueberries you handpicked smothered in double cream. Tea, Coffee, Water Refreshments supplied. (BYO Alcohol)

    3.30pm: Dancing on the beautiful timber floors of the very old Hall. (Picture below)

    6.00pm – BBQ Dinner – BYO

    What to bring: Shoes for walking around the farm, Dancing Shoes, BYO drinks and BBQ food. – We will have utensils, condiments, serviettes etc on hand for those wanting to use BBQ.

    I thought to keep the food simple, blueberries and cream for afternoon tea and BLT’s for dinner and charge $5 a head for food in addition to the $10 charity donation.

    Cost: $5 for food and $10 pp for charity… children free and all money goes to The Ovarian Cancer of Australia charity. Payment on the day at the door.

  4. Flashmob Dancing at Cooly Rocks On – Coolangatta – We need you!


    Want to join the Swing Dance Flash Mob at Cooly Rocks On this year with us? The More the Merrier. Secret Pop Up Locations will be revealed closer to the time on our Swing On In – Gold Coast Page and our SOI Social Swing Dance Troupe Page so join up if you keen to take part.     These flashmobs will take place between 10.30am to 1.30pm and will be on both main days ie: Saturday 10th and Sunday 11th June in varying locations aroudn the Cooly Rocks On Precinct in Coolangatta.

    It will run a bit like this:

    Flashmob into the crowd to surprise and entertain the general public for about 20 mins then we will do the Hokey Pokey (Hand Jive) for 10 mins then run to next secret loocation. It will be a whole lotta funa dn you will get to dance all over the place. Mostly on roads/grass and some staging at times. So wear appropriate footwear.

    As we are representing The retro side of the Gold Coast History, Cooly Rocks On AND Swing dancing overall we would like those participating to wear surf/hawaiian/beachy attire, bright and colourful fun! THIS IS OPEN TO ALL.. Not just Swing On In Peeps..

    There will be a core of Swing On In Social Dancers leading in and then we encourage everyone to Swing Out with us..

  5. Dance Workshops – Taster Classes for $10 with Rock On Dance Workshops

    Venue:  Timezone – at the Strand – Coolangatta
    Thursday 8th of June Ray and I will be teaching Lindy Hop Beg/Int/Adv at 11am and then 12.30pm
    Friday 9th of June – Chrissy with be teaching with Bruce Elder from Swing To It Sydney – Rockabilly Level 1 and then Level 2 at 9.30am and then 11.00am
  6. A Very Swellegenant Affair Tickets
    These are starting to sell like hotcakes now so get yours today by emailing:  [email protected], grab them, at classes or at the Friday night event.  Once you have your ticket and drink vouchers you can start to think about your Swellegant Affair Outfits.  More details being released soon about further acts and exciting news to the event site on Facebook so if you are on social media check it out from time to time or I will be doing a special EMAIL out about the WHOLE event in a couple of weeks.
