Howdy Swing Kids

Well one thing you can say about getting sick after Cooly Rocks On Festival.. you have downtime and that means catchup time so that means another newsletter for you.  WHAT?  twice in a month, what is going on…

Can you even imagine those numbers?  4000 inside the Savoy Ballroom with 5000 more outside waiting to get!  Swing was the thing on 11 May 1938

New Class times and Class Structure – Commencing  July

Ray and I are changing up the classes a bit and trying a new format.  We hope this new format pleases existing Swing On In dance community but also bring in new fresh faces to learn Swing Dancing with us.

NB:  We strongly encourage beginners to still come early and watch the Intermediate/Advanced class so you can a sense of where you are heading on your new dance journey!    We also strong encourage Intermediate/Advanced students to stay on and help the beginners through their class.  This gives new people confidence and real joy at the possibilities of being a better dancer sooner!   Please note these changes will commence from Wednesday 5 July & Thursday 6 July and then onwards.

6.45pm – 7.35pm – Intermediate/Advanced (50 min class)

7.45pm – 8.35 Beginners/Transition (50 min class)

8.35 – 10pm – Social dance practice & one on one help with instructors

Changes to Mullum Swings

We have decided with so many events on that we would pull back on the monthly Mullum Swings and make it Bi Monthly.  We also took into consideration that you will all have much more social dancing time in classes now with the new structure so we are hoping that fills your cup too!

Last 3 dates for 2023 (Can’t even fathom that I am saying this… where has the year gone!)

SUNDAY 9 JULY 1PM – 5PM – MERMAID BEACH BOWSL CLUB

Swing On In to “The Sunday Wind Down” Social Dance with us.
This fabulous afternoon will be filled with tunes to keep you dancing, great company, good vibes with guest DJ’s and Singers.
This day is a fundraiser also for our very own Carlo and Harry who are heading off to Japan for the World Titles of Karate (chito-ryu) representing Australia! Go Team
$10 at the door and all proceeds to help the boys get there and do us proud. Our Swing Dancing Dady & Son Karate team! (With all that Charleston up their sleeve I reckon they are in with a shot!)

SUNDAY 10 SEPTEMBER – MULLUMBIMBY
11am – 3pm (Includes a Lunch Break)
Introduction to Troupe… in this workshop we start to learn the fundamentals of performing and how to be dynamic working as a team. We will be speeding up your basics, adding in classic performance moves. We will finish with a little performance routine.
$50pp

SUNDAY 24 SEPTEMBER – MULLUMBIMBY
11am – 3pm (Includes a Lunch Break)
Beginners Aerials Workshop – come fly with us..  in this workshop you’ll learn the fundamentals of lifts, jumps, throws and dips.. starting some exercises, understanding timing and momentum and working in a partnership.  then will progress to 4 dynamic aerials suitable to dance in a jam circle.
$50pp – Must bring your own dance partner as we won’t be rotating in this workshop

SUNDAY 8 OCTOBER 2023 – MULLUMBIMBY
11am – 3pm (Includes a Lunch Break)
Learn the California Routine. This routine is world-renowned and what so great about it has a bit of everything in a performance routine .. it has dynamic basics, aerials, Charleston , shim sham and more . It’s a classic and one every performing troupe should know.
$40pp – Must bring your own dance partner as we won’t be rotating in this workshop
**EXISTING TROUPE MEMBERS WHO KNOW AND HAVE PERFORMED THIS ROUTINE ARE FREE TO ATTEND AND HELP OTHERS**

SUNDAY 22 OCTOBER – GOLD COAST
11am – 3pm (Includes a Lunch Break)
Jump in the Jam circle!! in this workshop. We will help you develop an 8 x 8 performance spotlight piece that you can jump into any jam circle at any event and shine spectacularly. This will be done to the song sing, sing sing, so have a listen to it and get familiar..
$50pp Must bring your own dance partner as we won’t be rotating in this workshop

A Very Fabulous Affair – A Supper Dance for Charity!

Well, we are nearly at the half way mark for our goal ticket sales so thank you to those who have jumped on a bought tables/tickets so far!  We have over $2000 worth of raffles/prizes and giveaways already!  Our Headline Act, Melissa Western and her  Moxey Crew are locked and loaded and we are so excited to bring this lineup to you!  The dance floor will be pumping!  We also have 2 very special spotlight entertainment for you on the night but this will be a surprise!
