It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Swing On In Style..

Hey Groovers, hows your December been so far?  Ours is getting super busy and as I love Christmas time so much, I had the tree up in November and Christmas Songs playing since 1 Dec! so the anticipation of the next couple of weeks has been front of mind and booming heck.. It’s here!  This year has certainly gone fast!

This is our last Newsletter for 2020 and wanted to say a BIG THANK YOU to our Swing On In Dance Family for your loyalty, persistence, patience and constant supply of joy and laughs for us, we did it.. we got through 2020 with an in tact and rambunctiously fun and full of sass dance community,  and we could not be prouder.  So many new faces ticking their “To DO List” box off and now are dancing weekly!  It was amazing to finally get back to our Northern Rivers Swing Community and have to say we LOVE our new home at the Mullumbimby Ex Services Club.  The staff are so kind and welcoming and the tucker is great too!  Cheap and cheerful and so so accomodating of us…  This is home now for Swing On In Northern Rivers and you are all welcome to Swing By any Thursday night to say Hi!  Through Covid we got to finish our humble little dance studio space which has been very very active with Lindy Charm School Photoshoots, Styling Consults and makeovers as well and private dance classes, troupe training and even a few sound and film recording spots from outside corporates!  So wonderful, we love it!  Ray is now finishing off the back deck and joining both houses .. its been a long and tedious road but he and our son Jesse have done such a fabulous job.. So proud of him.  He’s a keeper!  A special mention to Ian Cooke who has quite the struggle this year but back in good health and we miss his face and cheeky wit but we were lucky to spend time with him for a few weeks again just recently and he’s brought a beautiful new property so Swing n the Flowers 2021 of some sorts may be back on the cards again!  Also our thoughts go out to Mark Lou who broke both wrists skating (What were you thinking woman!! :))  Also to Gee Gee who had a car accident this week, we are thinking of you and please get back to us soon!  To all our friends who have been challenged and struggled this year, each one of you at some point cross our minds and hearts!  Here’s to a brighter 2021.!

Gold Coast Classes

GC Class has been a hoot of late and so many wonderful, energetic and new faces starting their journey of swing dance.  We love that our regulars all rushed back when Covid restrictions were lifted and I’ll never again take for granted the privilege to be able to dance in such a wonderful community of dance lovers!   Thanks to Ray for carrying the lion share of teaching and music choices that always keep us guessing.  Thanks also to our lovely ladies that step in each week for beginners so I can be the host with the most at front door!   Thanks to our little Swing kids who come and let Mum and Dad dance whilst they play and learn also.. Such a family friendly space!

Last Class for 2020 at Mermaid Beach Bowls Club is Tuesday 22nd December 2020.  Come and dance, celebrate the year that was and say hurrah to this venue.
First Class back again … Hmmm… we are hoping Mid January but we have not started looking for a new venue as yet, (next on the list) and we will advise you when we know where your new home is!

Mullumbimby Dance Classes

WOW.. First night back after a LONG Covid break on Thursday 26 November had them lining up at the door, it was fabulous, new, exciting and a little daunting.. Our soft re-opening on the Northern Rivers new venue at Mullumbimby Ex Services Club was a success! Each week since we have had a steady attendance and 2021 we intend to explode into Mullumbimby and surrounds with gusto! Get ready!  I have a good vibe about this place and where Swing On In is heading in 2021.

Last Class for Mullumbimby is:  Thursday 17th December (This coming Thursday)  and our first class back for 2021 is Thursday 7th of January 2021 – 6.30pm.

We are in talks with the club about holding a regular monthly swing dance social on the 3rd Friday of the month  kicking off 7pm in January, we will keep you up to date on dates and times once we confirm with club.

SOI Christmas Barefoot Bowls and Swing Dance catch up:

Sunday 20th December 1pm til late – FREE – Candy Canes on us!  – Mermaid Beach Bowls Club – Come Dress in your BEST Aussie Christmas and there will be a prize for best dressed!

Need to know who wants to play bowls so I can let club know numbers.  We have locked in 4 of the best DJ’s kicking off this Sunday Sunday Christmas Catch up before things get crazy!

3pm – 4pm DJ Tagz from Empire Swing Brisbane

Barefoot Bowls component will be organic and I have told them around 20 to play through the day so gather your teams and read up not he rules of play (I have no idea!)

We are looking forward to seeing you all, past, present and new students plus the wider community of swing funstars to get the party started!

At the moment the cost is approx $10 each and if/when more people join… just an easy $5.

CRO & Bleach 2021

Cooly Rocks On Festival this year will be held 9th to 13th June 2021 in Coolangatta and YES.. I am pleased to announce we are holding our Swing Ball again next year and will have some exciting news to roll out in the next few weeks.  This event WILL sell to and I’m hoping tickets to go on sale in February!  In addition to the Harvest Moon Swing Ball at Cooly Rocks on we will also have a dedicated dance/DJ stage where Ray and other DJ’s will be playing tunes all day for your dancing pleasure.  The Ball will be held FRIDAY 11TH OF JUNE 2021.. Band Announcements soon. 

Bleach Festival 2021

Dates for 2021 Bleach Festival are:  12-22 August 2021 and the most exciting news IS:  There will be a dedicated swing dancing floor/stage and multiple bands, jam sessions, social dancing and classes.  Ray and I are working with the team to deliver their vision AND it is a little daunting SO we are asking for all Schools to jump on board and lets make this a Swing Dancing Festival that will stream across Australia and Overseas and forms part of the wider City of Gold Coast Tourism campaign.  More details to come BUT mark those dates and practice up your dancing peeps, its going to be a wonderful and exciting experience!
