Hey Swing On In Fambam and Friends!
Well I’ve just finished 5 days off work, lazing about home and spring cleaning! No matter how many times you vacuum and mop and dust, when you live in a “work in progress renovation”, it always seems like you’ve done nothing! Grateful though for where we live, our humble little 60’s abode is home and in a world where there are a lot that don’t have the security of a home, we feel blessed!
Here is our cute little house! The history of this little place is fabulous. Only ever owned by 6 Women (I am No 6!) First lady on the Title was Myrtle Brown in 1947! The house would have been vastly different then. This current house was built in the 60’s and is called a shotgun house as the front door lines up with the back door! Ray’s Mum made us hang a mirror above back door so all or good luck didn’t flow right out the back door! When we went to council with plans to extend/renovate, they had no record of any plumbing on the site! Our Studio and Ray’s Man Cave are out the back and we will show these another time. It is literally 50 mtrs direct line to the Broadwater and has very OLD Gold Coast vibes! We plan to have some movie and pizza nights in the studio so will keep you posted on those.

Spotlight on a Swing On In Shining Star – Our Italian Bouncing Beauty!
When Melissa bounced into Swing On In for the first time you could not help but notice her. All smiles, full of bounce and excitement! Since then she has become a special part of our Swing On In Family and I wanted to shine a little light of her and her god given talents outside of dancing!
Melissa relocated from Italy directly to Byron 11 years ago. She was born in Italy, in a small village nestled between the Alps and the Venetian Gulf. Her passion for dance became evident to her parents when she was just 3 years old, as she would gracefully move to the classical music they played on vinyl records. They enrolled her in classical ballet classes, which she pursued for a decade before exploring various other dance styles such as hip hop, West African, Caribbean dancehall, Charleston and now Lindy Hop!
Dancing runs in Melissa’s family, with her parents having met on the dance floor. They danced together, engaging in Irish dancing, medieval dances, and her mother even teaches belly dancing, among other dance forms.
Aside from her love for dance, Melissa has also been a holistic therapist for many years, specializing in Shiatsu therapy, massage therapy, energy healing, and Theta healing. Lst week at class I mentioned that I was getting numbness in my fingers and my should was locked up. Melissa started working on me with Gefry and I have to say, whatever she/they did it worked as no numb fingers now!
Melissa is multilingual and proficient in four languages inlcuding: Italian, French, Spanish, and English and is also a biker, a devoted cat mom, an environment and animal welfare ethicist , and a radio host on Bay FM, where she hosts her ethnic Italian “That’s Amore” show every Wednesday – Tune in and check it out!
Thanks Mel for lighting up our world!
A Message Mel: “Thank you so much for this, I am so happy to be part of this community, Thank you for making me feel welcome and appreciated, for inspiring me and pushing me to improve. I hope you know how much of an impact you have on people, the joy you create..dancing is healing. Mel”
Farewell to Shamus
🎉🕺 Celebrating Our Beloved Shamus 🕺🎉
What a night to remember! The Swing On In community came together to bid a heartfelt farewell to one of our most cherished leads and the handsomest Shamus!
First and foremost, a huge shoutout to Ian for graciously providing the venue for this memorable soirée. You’ve always been a pillar of support for our community, and this night was no exception. 🏠👏
The dance floor was on fire as everyone came out to groove and celebrate Shamus in style. The music was swinging, the laughter infectious, and the dance moves, well, they were just spectacular! 💃🕺
It’s moments like these that remind us of the incredible bonds we’ve forged within the Swing On In family. The joy of dancing, the camaraderie, and the shared love for all things swing have brought us together in the most beautiful way. 🤗❤️
Shamus, you will be sorely missed on the dance floor, but we wish you nothing but the best on your new journey. Your charisma and talent have always lit up our nights, and we know you’ll continue to shine wherever you go. 🌟
Here’s a video of our last dance!
