Happy New Year, Happy Easter & Merry Christmas…. Bloomin Heck this year is flying by…  So much fun and excitement in the Swing On In World and here some awesome event not to be missed.

In this fast paced world we live in I tend to throw something up on social media on the fly and weeks go by without sharing the love through our website/newsletter!  I apologise for that!  I need an assistant!

1. Festival 2018 – Have you heard of it.  It’s amazing.  2 weeks of FREE entertainment through Surfers Paradise and Broadbeach Foreshores and parks.  From Circus to Jazz and Swing Bands to Theatre to Kids activities and everything in between.  Check out their offical program HERE   Ray and I and some of the Swing On In Crew are heading into this Gig if anyone would like to join us on Friday 13th of April:Friday 13^th– Broadbeach – MUSIC – Bullhorn, Tijuana Cartel and Cheap Fakes:  New wave brass band Bullhorn are an acoustic force of nature with a line-up including seven horn players, one drummer and one monster MC.Their high octane, combination of hard hitting hip hop, funk, soul, jazz, reggae and dance music never fails to get the audience moving.  CHECK IT OUT HERE
2. We welcomed 71 Nations, heard 71 anthems, watched 71 flags being raised, went through 30 pairs of white canvas tennis shoes from Kmart (Between 8 of us) .. We only had one trip to A&E with a Wisdom tooth infection and 1 achilles heel strain 1 popped knee and two calf stretch injuries…All in all, these  old tired bodies held up and did the job over and over again.  So very proud of the team who bonded so tightly in strength, determination and energy from the very first performance until the very last.  The Girls outfits were all made by Jenni Porter from Jacks’ Daughter and were 1940’s inspired playsuits.  The Boys outfits /shirts were supply.ie day Fossil Vintage and Arkive Vintage .

   We had some pretty spine tingling moments especially with the African Nations and their warmth, humour, dance, song, pride & enthusiasm and then we had some personal pride moments especially when welcoming Australia….Here is a little video and some pictures to give you an idea of what it was like.Commonwealth Games Wrap Up – what can I say.. What a ride.. How blessed we were to be chosen to collaborate & create this magical show for the Commonwealth Games Team Welcome Ceremonies…  No only did we get to play hard, perform hard, experience it all and immerse ourselves into this amazing opportunity, we made friends, made an impact, did something grand and ticked a bucket list moment…. all in all, what a blessing for our Swing On in Dance Troupe…  Videos can been seen on our social media sites soon tone on the Swing On In You Tube Site.

3. Classes:  A HUGE THANK YOU to Mark Tippett, Julia Burns, Kerrie Bartlett and Sarah Smith who kept our Swing On In Dance School Baby going and thriving in our 3 weeks absence.  Not many small businesses like our could step away for 3 weeks and trust that it will be business as usual but our dance community is awesome, loyal, supportive and encouraging and they had our backs..  We LOVE YOU!…Here’s a reminder of classes/Socials:Monday Night Social Dance Practice at Nerang Community Hall from 7.30pm to 9.30pm ($5) is back on and open to all;

   Tuesday Night Special Classes at Mermaid Beach Bowls Club are from 7pm-8pm then social dance from 8pm-9pm – ($15)
   April is Blues with Brian and Sheryl
   May is RocknRoll/Rockabilly with Ray and Chrissy
   June is Cabaret/Jazz with Amanda DeByle

   Wednesday is regular Bangalow Lindy Hop/Swing Dance Classes & Social from 7pm to 10pm – ($15)

   Thursday is our regular Gold Coast Lindy Hop/Swing Dance Classes and Social at Mermaid Beach Bowls Club 7pm – 10pm ($15)

   First Friday of every Month is our Swing Out with Swing On In Social Dance at Nerang Community Hall – 34 Price Street Nerang.

Good vibes, fine tunes, perfect weather and the chance to dance.Gather your friends, kick off your shoes, learn the rhythms of the day, then dance the evening away under the stars. For friends and families, left feet to professionals.

5. FRIDAY 25TH OF MAY – Gold Coast Jazz & Blues Club – Grand Re-Opening with a Bang…

   
   Want to dance to a Big band right here on the Gold Coast? Friday night 25th of May for $30 pp you can enjoy this fabulous big band right here at home with fabulous dance floor and surroundings to make a glamorous night of nights. Lets Dance the night away together.Chrissy and Ray from SWING On In will be there to teach a complimentary dance class to the general public then dancing the night away to some swinging live music .

   The Rhythm Society Dance Orchestra makes its debut performance at the Gold Coast Jazz and Blues Club performing critical selections from the swing era. Enjoy an evening of music featuring classic hits from Benny Goodman, Glenn Miller, Harry James, Tommy Dorsey and Artie Shaw

6. Qld Swing Festival – This brand NEW festival is set to make its mark on the world Lindy Hop Calendar and all props to Empire Swing for making it happen!
   Ray and I have booked in for the Teachers Workshop own Friday 25th with the The DecaVitas and will then head home to the Goldie to support/teach/dance at The Gold Coast Jazz and Blues Club with the Rhythm Society Dance Orchestra BUT will be back up to Brisbane for the Sat/Sun full social pass and hope to se you all there.  Look at the fun that can be had!!  Just DO IT!.. Car Pool or Train….. but just get there….
7. Spaghetti & Jazz – A little mention about this dynamite Spaghetti House that LOVES Jazz and Swing.  They seem to always have something fun and playful whilst enjoying the best of Italian food..  Check them out and get along and support some live music and possibly even tear up the floor or dance on some tables ..  Swing Dance Rock Stars!!!   Next Show is with Rhydian Lewis : Dinner & Dance!
